Tell Me the Stories of Jesus
Keep Your Focus on Christ
Reference: Matthew 14:22-33 Jesus walking on water is one of my favorite Bible stories, in a lot of different ways. The most amazing part of the story, to me, is not directly about Christ, but Peter. When Jesus' apostles are out on the sea, they see Jesus walking toward them. They were very afraid, but when Peter recognizes the figure as Christ, he comes out on the water and actually walks toward Jesus for some time. However, when he sees the storm a-brewin' and the wind a-blowin' he loses focus on the Lord and begins to fall into the water. Luckily, Christ is there to pick him up before he falls all the way under. Is this not exactly how our lives are now? For many of us, we aspire to follow Christ with all of our might. When we keep our focus on the Lord, we can do amazing things; but, how often are we distracted by the things of the world, that we begin to lose focus? Remember to always focus on our Savior, then you can truly see the strength that He gives to you. |
Living WaterReference: John 4:5-26
The story of the living water is one of my favorites from the New Testament. Christ has an exchange with a Samaritan woman at a well, offering her living water that would never leave her thirsty again. This living water is the Gospel, a fountain of knowledge and joy that can never leave one thirsty if they seek it out. This is what the Lord has always offered- happiness and insight, and He invites us to search the scriptures and pray and seek truth so that we may find the 'well of water springing up into everlasting life'. |
Selfless ServiceReference: John 13:4-15
Jesus Christ was the perfect example of selfless service. When He first washed the apostle's feet, they did not understand why He would do this for them. He was their focus, their leader, and their Messiah. Why would He do such a thing for them? It's quite simple. He loves us more than we will ever know, and to show His love for us He served us through the Atonement, etc. What that means for us is that we show our love back by serving our fellow man. |
Suffer the ChildrenReference: Matthew 19:13-14
As kids, we are taught that Jesus loves us unconditionally and that He especially loves the children. He said that little ones make up the kingdom of heaven. Even though some of us have passed the stage of childhood, we can still find childlike attributes, like happiness, hope, humility, submissive, ambitiousness, and full of love. These things, I think, are what Christ looks for in us, that we may become a child of Christ and allow Him to mold us into what He wants us to be, so that we can return to the Father. |
